Things Are Getting Spooky Around Here… 👻
Events from October 9-11, 2026 around Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island
Okay, October. We see what you're doing. 😂
Last weekend you eased us in with a few pumpkins, fall festivals and some crisp-weather fun.
This weekend?
Scarecrows. Bats. Spooky woods. Cemeteries. Costumed dogs. Pumpkin everything.
Apparently we've skipped the warm-up and gone straight into spooky season. 👻
But don't worry.. there's plenty for those of you who like your October more cozy than creepy, too. We've got puzzles, fall festivals, pumpkin decorating, old-fashioned cooking, rides in Coney Island and one HUGE free community festival.
So grab a sweater, bring the kids, bring the dog...
October has plans for you. 🎃🍂
Friday, October 9th — Puzzles, pumpkins & scarecrows 🧩🎃
Jigsaw Puzzle Hour (Maspeth)
Let's start the weekend with something completely wholesome. 😂
If putting together a jigsaw puzzle is your idea of a good time — or you just need an hour where nobody expects you to accomplish anything besides finding that ONE missing corner piece — Queens Public Library has you covered. Puzzle Hour Details ➜
Hicks Nurseries Fall Festival (Westbury)
Remember this one? We saved it for October! 😂
The 51st annual Fall Festival at Hicks Nurseries is in full swing with thousands of pumpkins and mums, fall photo ops, lawn games, Otto the Ghost, an animated Halloween walkthrough and the NEW Skeleton Estate Garden.
Admission and parking are FREE, and there's plenty to see without purchasing any of the additional kids' activities. Plus... cider donuts, roasted corn, fudge and apple cider.
Now THIS feels like October. 🎃🍎 Plan Your Visit ➜
Scarecrow Garden Exhibit (Old Westbury)
Some are charming. Some are clever.
And apparently some are just wonderfully weird. 😂
Stroll through the Scarecrow Garden at Old Westbury Gardens and check out the collection of creative scarecrows on display throughout the grounds — then vote for your favorite!
The exhibit runs through October 31 and is included with admission. Explore the Scarecrow Garden ➜
Saturday, October 10th — dogs in costumes. Need we say more? 🐶🎃
🐶 Little Bay’s 1st Annual Pooch Halloween Parade (Bayside)
We're starting Saturday with what may be the cutest event we've shared all year. A HALLOWEEN PARADE... FOR DOGS.
Dress up your pup and head to Little Bay Park for the park's first-ever Pooch Halloween Parade. The parade kicks off at 11 AM near the Utopia Parkway entrance and follows the waterfront path toward the Little Bay parking lot.
Even if you don't have a dog... are spectators allowed? Because we have QUESTIONS. Parade Details ➜
🎃 Pumpkin Decorating at Belmont Park Village (Elmont)
Pick your pumpkin and make it your own!
From 12–5 PM, kids can decorate pumpkins with gems, paint markers, stickers, florals and more at Belmont Park Village.
It's $15 per child — or complimentary for members. Pumpkin Decorating Details ➜
📚 Storytime… at a Cemetery?! (Maspeth)
Okay, we KNOW how this sounds. But this is actually a not-so-spooky storytime at Mount Olivet Cemetery designed to help families see cemeteries as beautiful community green spaces rather than scary places.
From 10:30 AM–12 PM, there'll be an interactive reading of J. Albert Mann's The Cemetery, plus face painting, arts & crafts and giveaways.
And it's FREE and open to all. Reserve Your Free Spot ➜
🥧 Colonial Culinary: Pumpkin Soup & Pie (Floral Park)
Ever wonder how people did pumpkin season before Trader Joe's existed?
At Queens County Farm Museum, you'll step back in time and learn how colonists turned native squash and harvest ingredients into the autumn traditions we still love today.
This hands-on Colonial Cooking class runs from 10–11 AM and costs $55. Get Tickets ➜
🎉 Frontline Fest at Nassau Coliseum (Uniondale)
Need a break from all the ghosts and pumpkins?
Frontline Fest is a FREE, all-day community festival at Nassau Coliseum from 8:30 AM–4:30 PM with 3-on-3 basketball, Lotería, wellness and yoga, a kids zone, food trucks and musical performances and DJs curated by Hot 97 and WBLS.
A little something for everyone — and did we mention FREE? Festival Details ➜
Sunday, October 11th — FULL spooky-season mode activated 👻🦇
👻 Spooky Fest (Rockville Centre)
How scary do you like your Halloween? At Spooky Fest, you can choose.
The non-scary experience includes an Enchanted Forest Walk with friendly characters, dinosaurs, a Mystic Garden, crafts, face painting, fortune telling, a glow tent and more.
It’s happening from 6–9 PM, and they warn the Spooky Woods is NOT for the faint of heart.
🎢 Halloween Harvest at Luna Park (Coney Island)
Coney Island... but make it Halloween.
Luna Park transforms for Halloween Harvest with pumpkins, hay bales, seasonal decorations, live entertainment, a pumpkin patch, tractor races, trick-or-treating, the Phantom Grounds walkthrough and, of course, the rides.
Halloween Harvest runs through November 1, so you've got a few weekends to check this one off your list.
🍎 Harvest Festival at the Onderdonk House (Ridgewood)
For something a little more old-fashioned and cozy...
Vander Ende–Onderdonk House is celebrating autumn from 12–4 PM with pumpkins for kids who register in advance, arts & crafts, games, butter churning, apple pressing for cider and more.
Yes, you can churn butter in Queens this Sunday. We LOVE finding this stuff.
🦇 Creatures of the Night: Bats at Crocheron Park (Bayside)
And we couldn't possibly end this week's list with anything other than... BATS.
Head to Crocheron Park at 6 PM with the Urban Park Rangers to learn more about one of October's most misunderstood nighttime creatures.
Because apparently this week's newsletter needed just ONE more spooky activity.
