The Superior Local | Hello, October! 🍂We’ve Got Plans.
Hello, October! 🍂We’ve Got Plans.
Events from October 2-4, 2026 around Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island
And just like that... October has entered the chat.
The month of pumpkins, changing leaves, sweaters, Halloween decorations and somehow wanting everything we eat or drink to contain cinnamon.
And judging by this weekend's lineup, October is wasting NO time.
We've got pumpkin painting, yoga in the park, fall festivals, tie-dye, canoeing, a huge agriculture fair, a street festival, a mystical market, Oktoberfest... and even a challenge to put your PHONE AWAY for a few hours.
Welcome to October. Let's see what you've got.
Friday, October 2nd — Pumpkins, unplugging & The Strokes 🎃🎸
Pumpkin Painting at Old Westbury Gardens (Old Westbury)
We’re two days into October, so naturally… it’s time to decorate a pumpkin. 😂
Head to the Barn at Orchard Hill at Old Westbury Gardens from 4–6 PM for a festive family pumpkin-painting afternoon. All supplies are provided, and every ticket holder gets a mini pumpkin to decorate and take home. Pre-registration is required.
Phone-Free Friday at Museum of the Moving Image (Astoria)
Okay, be honest… Could you do it? 😂
Every Friday through November 20, Museum of the Moving Image is inviting visitors to check their smartphones at the door. In exchange, you’ll get 50% off general admission and a few hours to actually look around without checking a notification every 37 seconds.
October 2 is the kickoff, with a reception featuring light bites, drinks and — naturally — phone-free socializing.
We kind of LOVE this idea.
The Strokes (Flushing)
You already know where to find me Friday. 😂🙋🏻♀️
The Strokes are playing Flushing Meadows Corona Park — IN QUEENS! And they’re bringing Beach House and TV On The Radio with them. Doors open at 3 PM and the show starts at 4 PM.
This was not a difficult decision for me. 😂
Saturday, October 3rd — Stretch, Create & Festival Hop🍂🎨
Nature’s Palette: Yoga & Mandalas (Bayside)
Start Saturday peacefully at Crocheron Park.
The morning begins at 9:30 AM with yoga, followed by a meditative walk where you’ll interact with nature and create mandalas along the way. The program is FREE, but registration is required.
Yoga + fall nature + a little creativity? Not a bad Saturday morning.
Tie-Dye Fest featuring Solshyne (Woodhaven)
Grab the family and get colorful!
Tie-Dye Fest brings together tie-dye fun and live music from Solshyne for a Saturday afternoon that definitely stands out from your standard fall festival.
Fort Totten Fall Festival (Fort Totten)
This is a GREAT free family option. Head to the beautiful grounds of Fort Totten from 1–4 PM for a FREE Fall Festival with games, activities, performers, a puppet show and more.
And while you’re there, take some time to wander around Fort Totten — it’s one of those Queens places that makes you forget you’re still in NYC.
First Annual Oktoberfest at the Barn (Old Bethpage)
Prost! 🍻 Old Bethpage Village Restoration is holding its FIRST Annual Oktoberfest at the Barn from 11 AM–6 PM, celebrating German-American harvest traditions with food, music and family fun — all inside a historic 19th-century village.
Now THAT sounds like an October Saturday.
Sunday, October 4th — Get outside, Queens! 🛶🌽🔮
Basic Canoeing at Alley Pond Park (Oakland Gardens)
How about starting Sunday… on the water?
The Urban Park Rangers are leading Basic Canoeing at Oakland Lake in Alley Pond Park from 10–11:30 AM. The program is for ages 8+ and is designed to get you comfortable paddling while enjoying one of Queens’ beautiful natural spaces.
October canoeing in Queens? We told you we find some good ones. 😂
Woodhaven Street Fair (Woodhaven)
Jamaica Avenue is turning into one BIG neighborhood celebration!
The annual Woodhaven Street Fair takes over Jamaica Avenue with local merchants, vendors, nonprofits, performers and plenty of food — an event that draws 30,000+ visitors to the neighborhood.
If you love a good old-fashioned NYC street fair, here’s your Sunday plan.
Queens Agricultural Fair (Floral Park)
Get a little bit country… without leaving Queens! 🤠
Queens County Farm Museum’s Agricultural Fair runs 10 AM–5 PM with corn-husking contests, hayrides, square dancing, live music, theatrical performances, local food and craft vendors, carnival rides AND traditional Blue Ribbon competitions in everything from vegetables to baked goods.
This feels like peak October.
4th Annual Mystic Mega Market (Astoria)
Now for something a little… mystical. 🔮✨
Astoria’s 31st Avenue Open Street transforms into the Mystic Mega Market from 1–6 PM, with art, food, crafts, astrologers, tarot and palm readers, psychics, healers, workshops and all kinds of magical curiosities.
And admission is FREE. Whether you’re a believer or just nosy about what your tarot cards might say… this sounds FUN. 😂
